FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In less than 30 years since its founding, the Community Foundation of Broward, the county’s epicenter of nonprofit initiatives, has reached $100 million in assets.
The Foundation’s assets represent the donations of more than 700 philanthropists interested in supporting critical causes in the local community through the establishment of individual funds. Nearly $50 million has been returned back to the community through grants from these funds since the founding of the Foundation.
“Support from organizations like the Community Foundation is more critical today than it ever has been,” said the Foundation’s President and CEO Linda Carter. “No matter what happens with the government, its support to nonprofits is guaranteed to shrink even more in the future.
“We are fortunate in this community that people see the value of investing in the community and creating legacies through funds that support important causes.”
The Community Foundation has taken on a leadership role in past years on a number of critical issues, including HIV/AIDS education, children aging out of foster care and homelessness. Current initiatives include support of arts and cultural programming; educational programs for nonprofit leaders; and the Re-Engage for Good campaign, which will invest more than $1 million to support programs that move retiring baby boomers into encore careers for social good.
